Description

Photograph taken from an album of prints collected by English motorist, motor car manufacturer and aviator Charles Stewart Rolls (1877-1910). It shows the motor car in which Rolls set a new world kilometre speed record of 150 km/h (93 mph) in Phoenix Park, Dublin, in 1903. Rolls was a keen driver and was well known in the motoring world after taking part in many races of the time, including the 1000 Mile Trial (1900). After establishing a succesful busines asembling and selling imported French motor cars from showrooms in London, he founded Rolls-Royce Ltd with Sir Frederick Henry Royce (1863-1933) in 1906, creating one of the world's most famous motoring companies.
