Description

Photograph taken from an album of images compiled by Charles Stewart Rolls (1877-1910), English motorist, motor car manufacturer and aviator. From 1895, Leon Bollee was the first to build petrol-driven vehicles in France, such as the early Tri-Car shown here, which won several motor races in France in the 1890s. Rolls founded Rolls-Royce Ltd with Sir Frederick Henry Royce (1863-1933) in 1906, creating one of the world's most famous marques. Prior to the formation of Rolls-Royce, Rolls had a succesful busines importing and selling French cars from showrooms in London. He was well known on the motor racing circuit, competing in many of the races of the time.
