This engine burned kerosene fuel in hydrogen peroxide oxidant and was designed by the Rocket Propulsion Department of the Royal Aircraft Establishment at Farnborough, Hampshire. It was originally intended as an engine for the proposed interceptor aircraft of the 1950s and was subsequently developed for use on the Black Knight and Black Arrow launch vehicles.
