Detail of upper arm. Screws developed by Profesor Stanislaw Mitura of the Technical University of Lodz, Poland, in collaboration with Doctor John Hasard of Imperial College, London. These screws have been coated with nano-crystalline diamond (NCD). NCD coatings extend the lifespan of the implants by increasing their resistance to decomposition. To date, NCD coated stainles steel implants have not been rejected and have not produced toxic or allergic reactions, nor do they affect clotting of the blood.
