Glass bridge across the Challenge of Materials Gallery in the Science Museum, London, July 2001. This is the centrepiece of Challenge of Materials, a gallery which opened in 1997. Here, visitors to the Science Museum can explore a wide variety of materials. The bridge, across the atrium of the museum, is supported by almost invisible steel wires measuring only 1mm in diameter and forms an interactive exhibit with lights and sounds that respond to the changing load conditions. A prototype pod for the London Eye can be seen in the background.
