A pair of quern stones.

A pair of stone querns. A quern is a simple hand mill used for grinding grain to make flour. The proces would have been laborious, taking several hours to produce a gritty flour. Querns were developed by civilizations as far apart as China and Peru, and were first used at least 10,000 years ago.
