This full-size working replica was built by Michael Satow & Locomotive Enterprises Ltd for the 150th anniversary of the Rainhill Trials in 1979. The original 'Rocket', designed by Robert Stephenson (1803-1859) and George Stephenson (1781-1848), became famous after winning the Rainhill Trials of 1829, a competition set up to find the most efficient locomotive for haulage on the Liverpool and Manchester Railway. The Rocket is shown here in York.
