image details

Description
Waterloo station in wartime, London, c 1943. The roof of the station has been blacked out and the lamps shaded as hurrying figures are silhouetted agaist rare shafts of light. In the foreground two policemen talk to a soldier. During the war Waterloo did not escape unscathed, but mostly managed to maintain 'business as usual'. Programmes of music were broadcast over the loudspeakers to counter the gloom.
