Professor Alexander Oliver Rankine holding up a scarf on a stick during a lecture to an audience of school children. The lecture, titled 'The Round Of The Waters', was taking place at the Royal Institution in Picadilly, London. Their annual Christmas lecture series for young people was founded by Michael Faraday (1791-1867) in 1826. This photograph has been selected from the Daily Herald Archive, a collection of over three million photographs. The archive holds work of international, national and local importance by both staff and agency photographers. Photograph taken by James Jarche for the Daily Herald newspaper on 3 January, 1933.
