British Mark IV tanks are advancing on a dusty road past dug-in artillery, supported by columns of marching infantry. Cambrai in northern France saw the British launch the first full-scale offensive designed to make use of massed armour. On 20 November, 1917, 476 tanks attacked the German lines.
