From 'Expedition dans les parties centrales de l'Amerique du Sud' ('Expedition in the central parts of South America'), by Francis de Castelnau (1812-1880), published in Paris in 1852. This is an account of the French government's scientific expedition led by Castelnau in the years 1843-1847. The party travelled across South America to La Paz in Bolivia, making meteorological, botanical and zoological observations.
