Illustration by 'Spy' (Sir Leslie Ward) depicting Frederick Henry Royce (1863-1933). In 1884 Royce founded Royce Ltd, which specialised in electromotors and electrically driven cranes, from 1903 he concentrated on motor car work attracting the attention of car trader, Charles Stewart Rolls and in 1906 Rolls-Royce Ltd was founded. Leslie Ward worked as an illustrator on 'Vanity Fair' for over forty years, he was knighted in 1918 and died in 1922.
